Peggy Liuzzi was a pivotal figure in early care and education in Central New York, committing over four decades—from 1971 until her retirement in 2013—to ensuring the safety, health, and development of young children. Her long tenure at Child Care Solutions (formerly the Onondaga County Child Care Council) culminated in her role as Executive Director from 1991 to 2013, following her service as a founding board member in 1975 and Assistant Director starting in 1986. Peggy was an unwavering advocate, focused not just on direct services but on systems-level change, pushing for stringent state regulations, more frequent monitoring, and comprehensive training to build a coherent, responsive early childhood system. Her profound influence and personal excellence were formally recognized when she was named a Woman of Distinction by Senator DeFrancisco in 2010.
